Theories of Narrative (Propp)

Propp analysed folk stories and realised that there where 8 ky characters in all films:

- The Hero (Protagonist)

- The Villain (Antagonist)

- The Doner (Provider) Gives hero the special equiptment.

- The Helper - Helps the Hero

- The Father Figure - This Person has wisdom and knowledge

- The Dispatcher - Sends Hero on the job

- The Princess - The damsel in distress

- The False Hero - Somebody who we think is the hero but in fact is a villain.

I watched some 007 films and used Prop's theory. This is what i discovered:

The Hero - 007

The Helper - One of many beautiful women

The Father Figure - M

The Dispatcher - M

The Princess - Yet again, one of many rather attractive ladies

The False Hero - Anoter Double-0 agent played by Shaun Bean.
